Asphalt Surface Maintenance

It costs about the same to install asphalt or concrete.
Asphalt is easier to repair while concrete withstands temperature, wear and time better than asphalt.

DARM asphalt repair mix can be used to repair concrete.
Follow the same instructions for repairing asphalt. For gray coloring, sprinkle dry "Portland" cement mix on the DARM surface until the color matches the concrete.

Asphalt needs regular maintenance.
The surface should be cleaned and sealed every two years. Cracks need immediate sealing to prevent water damage to the soil layers beneath the pavement. Small cracks may be repaired with an asphalt crack sealer.

DARM easily repairs potholes, ruts, road edges, depressions, and utility cuts in asphalt.

Make sure the area to be repaired is solid and stable. With large holes, gravel can be layered and tamped into the hole before placing the repair mix on top. Fill the hole with a 1 to 2 inch layer of asphalt repair mix and tamp it in place with a shovel, tamper or drive over a board covering the patch. (NOTE: An easily constructed tamper can be made by nailing a small piece of plywood onto the end of a 2 x 4 piece of wood or pole. (A gasoline-powered tamper can be obtained from any local equipment rental shop.) Add another 2" layer of asphalt repair mix and tamp. The last layer should over fill the hole by an inch to allow for more tamping, traffic use and binding/curing of the mixture.

DARM is also effective in repairing chip & seal and gravel roads. DARM does not blow out of the hole!
